WHY PEACE IS IMPORTANT:
Having more peace in your life will give a sense of calm, slow tranquility in each moment, each breath and each step. We lose peace when we feel, disturbed, anxious or stressed in our daily relationships, situations, or circumstances. Sometimes, it’s hard to find peace because we have a difficult time slowing down and taking care of ourself. We try to hard to make things ‘work’ out. This is disturbing when it doesn’t work out the way we had planned, and we have a hard time letting go and trusting in the process. When we reconnect with peace, we have a peace that surpasses all understanding. We feel tranquil. We have an easier time accepting what is without an attachment to an outcome.
HOW COLORING CAN HELP:
Coloring intentional words helps you to engage with the present by noticing and focusing on the quality you want to bring into your life. While doing this, the mind will wander, but it should always be brought back to the object of focus without judging or being distracted by the content of those wandering thoughts. While moving your crayon, pen, or colored pencil through the intricate shapes on the page, your mind is focusing, often to the exclusion of unpleasant thoughts and the feelings which accompany them.
Coloring calms activity in the amygdala, a part of the brain that handles the “fight or flight” response. This response is a condition in which the body is in a heightened state of panic and hyper-vigilance—it’s your brain trying to help you fight against something dangerous or, alternatively, to help you flee from it. This can lead to inflammation—a state in which the body has been overstimulated by stress hormones, and is harming and exhausting itself. You may already know that inflammation is the root of many disorders, including asthma, high blood pressure, Alzheimer’s, and arthritis, and is a silent killer. Coloring disarms the amygdala, which, in turn, calms our bodies and brains.
